Where

This time of year can be crazy busy with deadlines, holiday parties, and endless shopping, so I thought it would be fun to escape with Getaway and take a break from the daily demands. Getaway offers tiny cabins about an 1.5 hours from Cleveland and around 45 minutes from Pittsburgh that allows you to disconnect and recharge.

What

I booked a four person cabin for myself, Gabe, my cousin and her boyfriend. Check-in was at 3:00 P.M. so we left around 1:45 which was an easy drive right down the turnpike! The morning of your trip, Getaway sends you the name of the cabin, a downloadable map to help you find your cabin (service is limited), and the key code to get unlock the door. When we pulled up it looked like a tiny cabin village with each one not too far from the other. It allowed you to feel secluded but not totally alone in the woods (and thank God because I am a total baby when it comes to that stuff)! There was also a main administrative cabin if you were to need anything!

Each cabin offers a tiny but effective kitchenette with most of your basic needs and fully functioning bathroom. The four person cabin has two bunk queen beds with a beautiful view of the woods. It has a little heater and or air conditioner depending on the time of year you go. We brought all of our own food and drink but they do offer some pantry staples and outdoor necessities for purchase. Everything was clean and nicely setup for when we arrived.

Activities

Once we arrived we unpacked our provisions and headed out for a hike to Beaver Creek State Park. Only about 7 minutes away from camp, Beaver Creek offered a taste of nature with a few options for hiking. With sunset not too far away and hunting season in full swing we decided to walk along the water trail. Afterwards we headed back to the cabin, made a fire and some cocktails and just relaxed. It started to rain while we were there but we threw on our ponchos and embraced nature. Of course s’mores were consumed along with grilled chicken cooked right on top of the fire!

The rest of the night was spent sitting around the tiny table while laughing, eating, and drinking. Cell service was minimal but still available if needed. I decided to embrace the concept and kept my phone in the lockbox aside from snapping a few pics. We left early the next morning to cheer on our beloved Cleveland Browns but genuinely had so much fun simply hanging out and enjoying each other’s company.

Next Time

Getaway cabins can easily be enjoyed with couples, friends, as a romantic weekend away or even a family affair if you have kids. The one thing I do wish we brought was bottled water! The water from the sink was safe to drink but it tasted like well water. We ended up boiling the water but it would’ve been easier had we thought ahead! Overall it was a great place to disconnect without having to travel too far from home. I would recommend it for a couple’s getaway, a romantic weekend for two, or an outdoor adventure with the family.

Getaway was kind enough to provide me with a discount code for you to save some money on your trip! The code is LONANNI25 for $25 off and you can book through this link Getaway House Disclaimer: this is a commissionable link so I do make a small profit from each trip booked!
